Breeding Philosophy
The Flightless Farm breeding program produces some
of the most diverse, vigorous and beautiful Suri Llamas
in North America. Our breeding herd consists of
Peruvian, Canadian, Bolivian and Domestic bloodlines.
The FLT program breeds for a substantial athletic physique,
strong toplines, stretchy frames and hefty birth weights
and fiber that is ultra fine (<20 micron AFD) with
distinctive lock structure and high luster. Flightless
Farms has been successful in producing a phenotype that
is a standout in today’s market as well as in the
show ring.
The foundation dams of Flightless
Farms can be traced back to The Canadian, Crazy Mountain
Man, Franklin and the large lanuda females like Eskadra,
Eskopada and Indian Peaks Arabesque. These lines have
impressive production records and are some of the tallest
and largest llamas in the industry. Our breeding program
may have gathered the largest group of “E-Line”
females to date. We love the production records and
the “look” of these large, stretchy, lanuda girls
who have also done extremely well in producing a high
percentage of suri offspring for the FLT program. FLT
Esuri is a shining example of the “E-Line Suri”
that has grabbed everyone’s attention. The recognizable
look of the FLT llamas reflects the size, fiber and
refinement of their strong dams and the exotic suri
fiber of their suri sires who
themselves exhibit size, strength and substance.
We have added superior suri genetics through the Peruvian/Canadian
llamas. The Canadian lines have always been known for
their size and substance. We give credit to the White
Star Llamas breeding program for taking suri llamas
to that next level by consistently crossing back to
large Canadian lanudas. Flightless Farms owns some of
the largest suri females and suri
herdsires in the country, due in part the White
Star program.
